VO Registry at STScI UnAvailable until Thursday

Hi Gretchen,

I've got the DataScope (nee DIS) working again with the backup registry.
It took a while to recognize that the registry URL had transformed
from
   http://sdssdbs1.stsci.edu/nvo/voregistry/registry.asmx
to
   http://voregistry.net/registry/registry.asmx
rather than the index.aspx in your message.

Is there any way to find out that the original registry is down without
waiting for the connection to time out?
