SODA-1.0 - proposed erratum

Hi Marco,

The erratum proposes to change the UCD for the ID parameter. In the text the ID is described as an opaque ID and the UCDs then imply that they should either be URLs (old UCD of meta.ref.url;meta.curation.SODA) or URIs (new UCD of meta.ref.uri;meta.dataset).

However I think these might be better to be something like meta.id;meta.dataset and thus allow the provider to use any format of ID and thus preserve the opaqueness.

In the CASDA implementation we use a composite value for the ID which also carries authorisation information so is in no way an IVO ID or even a URI. This is something I had missed when implementing the spec, however this solves a requirement for us where the authorisation has to be handed from one system to another.

On a much more minor note, in the impact assessment section, could you change the statement “won’t .. have any impact on the service provider’s side” to “will have minimal impact on the service provider’s side” please. At least in the CASDA case we would need to amend the UCD and make a release, to remain compliant so there is some (simple) work to be done.

Cheers,
James Dempsey

Subject: SODA-1.0 - proposed erratum

Dear DAL,
dear Semantics (cross-posting reason: UCD involved),

I've been alerted (private email, Alberto) of a potential erratum
for the SODA-1.0 specification, dealing with a wrong UCD for
the ID parameter of that specification.

Quite late on it I moved the alert received into a proposed erratum;
you can find it here:

https://wiki.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/view/IVOA/SODA-1_0-Err-1

Please comment and discuss it.
After we get to a useful conclusion I'll report it to the TCG.

Cheers
      Marco
