Dear all,
Taking into account the growing interest in the astronomical community to
the 3D spectroscopy methods, we propose to organize an "interest group", or
subgroup of the IVOA DM group (TBD), uniting people interested
in any kind of 3D technics (integral-field spectroscopy, scanning Fabry-Perot
imagery, multi-object spectroscopy, high-energy spatially and spectrally
resolved data (X-ray CCD), 3D radio data) and in the data modeling. The main
purpose of the group will be to define a general and abstract description of
the 3D datasets in the VO (3D data model). For a moment there are some
developments made by the Euro3D consortium concerning the data format for
multi-object spectroscopy, and integral-field spectroscopy. The starting
point for the 3D data model might exploit these ideas and basic concepts
of the SED Data Model at its present status.
3 of us are involved in the research dealing with 3D data, and we are
looking now for a collaboration in the VO community, and particularly in
DM and DAL IVOA working groups to promote the 3D techics.
If there are people interested, we would propose to arrange a discussion
about it during Kyoto Interop (maybe in a frame of DM or DAL sessions: TBD).
Best regards,
Igor Chilingarian (SAI MSU; Obs.de Lyon)
Philippe Prugniel (Obs.de Lyon; Obs.de Paris)
Giovanni Covone (Euro3D, Obs.de Marseille)
