Matthew is really the best person to comment on this, but my understanding is that the plan is effectively to adopt STS as is rather than attempt any major changes.

I’d certainly have no objections to remote participation, but I don’t know what facilities will be available at the venue. If there’s demand, I’ll ask the organizers. Are you interested in that for yourself, or are you just speculating that the STS authors might want it?
