OK

This is basically a short introduction on how to use SKOS for migration of Thesaurus to
the Semantic Web.
Also relevant is the work of the Vocabulary Management Task Force.

Why not, at least as a proof of concept.
Is that the Thesaurus at http://msowww.anu.edu.au/library/thesaurus/?
And in this case, is it downloadable somewhere in any electronic format?

No dedicated tools so far I'm afraid. The first SKOS vocabularies will be primarily built
from migration of existing vocabularies in unameit formats. In such cases the best way is
to figure out the target expression in SKOS, and run whatever ad hoc script on the
original thesaurus, if it's correctly structured, to get an RDF/XML serialization in SKOS.
This is something I could achieve, bandwidth permitting, if I can get hold of the original
files, that is. :))
Maintaining the vocabulary afterwards will use any thesaurus management tools supporting a
SKOS output, but such stuff is now on the horizon, not on the shelves. For example in
Mondeca ITM we have a thesaurus management module, we are not able to export SKOS at the
moment, but it's in the pipe.
