Astrogrid Registry

Thought I should announce the location of Astrogrid components and explain
the Registry component in more detail.

You can find Astrogrid components at:
http://software.astrogrid.org/downloaddocs/releases.html (under the
download link)
Which will take you to the documentation of components such as:
http://www.astrogrid.org/maven/docs/HEAD/

The Registry webapp install instructions are found at:
http://www.astrogrid.org/maven/docs/HEAD/registry/multiproject/astrogrid-reg
istry/index.html

The above url will give you the installation and deployment instructions.
Currently Astrogrid uses eXist XML database externally instead of internally
requiring 2 seperate downloads (links provided on above url), but this is
expected to be made flexible soon. See the relevant section below.

Features:
   * IVOA compliant Web Service Interface.
   * Harvesting via OAI, Has automatic harvesting. Recent new jsp page in
Admin section for doing full replications or harvest by a date. Harvesting
reads the AccessURL's from the Registry Type XML hence it can call
WebBrowser or WebService implementations.
   * Validation of XML.
   * Flexible support for mulit-versioned XML Resource schemas. Currently
can support 0.9 and 0.10. With the addition of a few property pages and
possible xsl stylesheets it can support other versions when they come
available.

Coming Soon:
Because of the forthcoming demos a few of the recently added features has
been temporarily frozen and are not to be placed into the HEAD untill after
the demos. Estimated date of availability is February 11th.

   * Adding the flexibilty for the Registry to work on internal as well as
external eXist XML databases, i.e. if the eXist XML database server is
installed outside the registry webapp the Registry should be able to access
it. That way one can use the same eXist XML database for other projects or
services.
   * Taking a page from the book of Matthew, Matthew has shown some nice
features with XForms, and to incorporate that into the server side registry
for Astrogrid (0.10 only).
   * Administration page not only working with the servlet containers
security login, but Astrogrid Community.
   * WS-Security on the update will be implemented using the Astrogrid
Security component, but it will be up to the user to have settings should it
fail on the ws-security. Many client components still do not sent
ws-security at the moment.

   * Some cleanup is still needed on the flexiblity to make sure the same
service are available for the upcoming versions. A few hard-coded
requirements should be made flexible.

Feel free to request any other information dealing with other Astrogrid
components such as Applications(CEA), workflow, jes, and espcially Registry.
I will try to update the Registry component website link (above) of any new
developments, bug fixes, and features that come up.

Thanks,
Kevin
