Hi all,

Welcome to the Protocol Transitioning Tiger Team (P3T). This is an effort to improve compatibility of DAL and associated protocols with modern web development tools and practices. This stems from discussions in previous IVOA interops, but particularly talks at Bologna by Joshua Fraustro and Frossie Economou and follow-up in Tucson. Thank-you all for volunteering to assist.

Janet Evans has started off the wikipage at https://wiki.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/view/IVOA/DALGWSTigerTeam with the aims of the group and the scope from initial DAL and TCG discussions. The intent is to look at Cone Search, UWS and TAP initially and see what we can evolve to make the standards easier to implement with modern web development tools.

The schedule I'd like to aim for is to have monthly meetings between January and April and then have a 2 day hackathon (Thu/Fri, May 16/17) prior to the Interop in Sydney. We can then hopefully have some progress to report in a DAL session at Sydney.

The first step to this is discussing the current state, prioritising issues/concerns, and determining what we can work on in this first short run before the interop.

I'll send out a poll for the time of the January meeting shortly but I am aiming for the week of 22nd to 25th January (Fri 26th is a holiday in Australia).

I’m looking forward to working with you all on this effort and excited to see what we can produce!
