Hi all,
Some organization for our meeting tomorrow (Wed/Thurs). Additions/updates
to the agenda are welcome!
Cheers,
Jamie
*Purpose:* To discuss the new IVOA front page and website updates in
general.
This first meeting would be to discuss what should be on the front page,
e.g., what information is most important to highlight to visitors, what
links to include, how should we organize the front page, and making the
material easier to jump into as a non-VO person.
*Relative meeting notes:*
Intro IVOA portal discussion (Dec. 15 meeting): http://wiki.ivoa.net/intern
al/IVOA/MediaGroup/ivoa_portal_discussion_20171215.pdf
Last group meeting notes at Oct. Interop:
http://wiki.ivoa.net/internal/IVOA/MediaGroup/IVOAMediaGroupMOMs_2017-10-28_ADASS.pdf.
Especially *Section 7*.
Get test front page up for March Exec meeting
*Agenda:*
1. Who is our audience? What are our goals?
2. What information should be displayed on the front page?
3. Based on our answer, how should we organize the front page?
3.1 Portal examples:
http://cxc.harvard.edu/ - discussed at Dec. 15 meeting. Static
page with categorized links to useful material
http://www.cadc-ccda.hia-iha.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/en/ - Static page
with categorized links, plus an archive search bar
3.2 very simple outline at
https://trello.com/c/QI9wg93q/2-front-page-design
4. What to display on subpages
- Right now, the "For Astronomers", "For Developers" pages could use
some cleaning up.
- ideas brought up from past meetings:
- easy-to-read VO documents list (tree-view of documents)
- "how-to" articles from TCGs on following protocols / writing to
standards
5. Assignment time
- figure out who's working on the website in general (web development,
writing blurbs, gathering/organizing material, etc...)
