GGF Astro BOF

Nic:
There are multiple grid related topics that would be worthwhile to
mention at the GGF Astro BOF. The goal would be to identify which of
the issues are of most interest, and then pursue a description for a
GGF report. Examples are:

- processing pipelines versus the Grid workflow environment (Chimera/Pegasus)
- IVOA registries versus Grid metadata management systems (MCS, SRB)
- Standard IVOA services versus grid service environment (WSDL/OGSA)
- Image archive management systems versus grid data management
systems (RLS, SRB)
- long term preservation of image archives versus data grid-based
persistent archives

In each of these areas there is either a grid implementation or a GGF
working group. We would like to understand how the IVOA requirements
will impact ongoing development across these areas.

>Dear All,
>
>at the upcoming Global Grid Forum meeting in Chicago (5-8 Oct 2003) - see
>www.ggf.org - there will be a Birds of a Feather session which starts of
>the process of forming a Astronomy Research Group at the GGF. I attach the
>draft charter to this message.
>
>This will give the Astro and IVOA VO communities a chance to input astro
>requirements into the 'grid' standards process.
>
>I would encourage those of you interested in this area to aim to attend
>this GGF meeting. Hope to see you there. (Note that early registration
>closes sept 26.)
>
>Please forward this message to those that may be interested.
