The question of elements-vs-attributes has been a rolling fight for  
at least the last 20 years.  It is probably unlikely to be resolved  
here.

And just by the way, XML design goal number 6 was `XML documents  
should be human-legible and reasonably clear' -- it's not just for  
the machines.
