Data/metadata

Following on from discussions in the VOTable list, where are we with dataset
metadata? Do we have any agreed way of describing the data held in a dataset
or its metadata? I guess we're looking for a common set of metadata that can
apply to most datasets, others metadata that can apply to types of data
(catalog data, image data etc), and then ways of describing dataset-specific
metadata.

Am I even asking the right questions? :)
