Perfectly correct -- sorry about that.  I now see the grammar is in  
section 5.1 of RFC2045 <http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2045.txt>, along  
with the statement:

 > There are, therefore, two acceptable mechanisms for defining new  
media subtypes:

 >         bilaterally between two cooperating agents without

 >          cannot be registered or standardized.
