Dear TDIG,

It was good to catch up with many of you in Shanghai last week. I think
the meeting was very productive — thanks to everybody who took part.

The TDIG sessions at the meeting were split into two distinct areas:
transient alerts (VOEvent) and time series data.

At the alert session:

- Pierre Le Sidaner provided some feedback about his experiences of
  deploying VOEvent in practice;
- Maria Patterson talked about the new alert system being constructed
  for ZTF and LSST;
- We had a useful discussion about potential future development
  directions for VOEvent. There are some notes from this on the wiki at
  http://wiki.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/view/IVOA/InterOpMay2017-TD-001.

At the (two) time series data sessions:

- There were several presentations, running the gamut from the current
  status of data model development (Mark Creistello-Ditmar, Jiří
  Nádvorník) to news and status updates from data providers (e.g. Juan
  Gonzalez deom Gaia)
- There was time for just a short discussion session after the
  presentations.
- Following this session, the plan is to create a joint DAL/DM/TDIG
  working group to identify solutions for time series use cases. Please
  make yourself known on this mailing list if you'd like to participate.

Dave Morris gave a summary of our activities at the closing plenary: his
slides are available here:
http://wiki.ivoa.net/internal/IVOA/InterOpMay2017PlenaryWG/20170519-tdig-002.pdf.

Finally, this InterOp marked the end of my period as chair of TDIG. I'm
delighted to report that Ada Nebot has agreed to take over this position,
with Dave Morris continuing as vice chair. I'm sure you'll join me in
wishing them both great success in these roles over the years to come!

Cheers,

John
