To the VOEvent community

On behalf of the IVOA Executive Committee, I am pleased to announce that the VOEvent 1.1
specification has reached the Recommendation status from the International Virtual Observatory
Alliace, the highest level of standard. This means that many people have examined and approved the
standard, and the specification and schema are now to be considered an international standard.

This means that future changes will be minor, and certainly there will be no changes that invalidate
efforts based on 1.1. It means that you can develop code and networks that use VOEvent without fear
of arbitrary changes.

Thank you for your support in getting this important standard accepted. And now is the time for
worldwide adoption, for creation of a global virtual telescope for exploration of the transient sky.
To infinity -- and beyond!

Chair, IVOA VOEvent working group
