Section 4.3 of the VOTable document (
http://www.ivoa.net/Documents/latest/VOT.html ) gives a reference (
http://vizier.u-strasbg.fr/doc/catstd-3.2.htx ) about how units should
be expressed.
According to this section, $cm^2$ should be defined in a VOTable field
as unit="cm2"
