Dear RWGers,
At long last, the registry data modeling tiger team has put together a
proposal for a new model for describing services which we want to
incorporate into the VOResource v1.0 XML Schema, and we are asking for
your feedback. The proposal is discussed on the twiki at
http://www.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/view/IVOA/RegDMServices (and is accessible
from the Working Group's home page). We welcome your feedback over the
registry mailing list. We will also discuss this in detail at the IVOA
Interop meeting next week.
The main goals of this proposal are:
o provide support for multiple versions of standards
o allow for multiple service endpoints, either for different parts of a
service or alternative interfaces
o clarifying the association between service capability metadata and
the interface that supports the capability
We're proposing a new approach to describing services which I refer to as
"service with capabilities". In this approach, a service record can
describe support for multiple service capabilities--such as ConeSearch and
SkyNode--in the same record.
We look forward to your comments!
cheers,
Ray Plante
