[p3t] Protocol Transitioning Tiger team - We're ready to get going!!!

Folks,

We’ve set up a protocol transitioning Tiger team that we are calling p3t.  You may recall signing up at the IVOA Interop to help on this team at a DAL session.

We’ve had one planning meeting so far (with just a few of us), set up this email list, and chose the lead - James Dempsey (Chair of DAL).  Now James is working to set up the first meeting.

We decided to meet once a month between Jan and April and then meet again at the start of the Interop - perhaps 2 days (Thu & Fri) before the Sydney meeting that starts on Monday for general attendance and Sunday for those of is in Exec & TCG meetings.  This is important to establish as folks start their trip planning - it will be settled at our 1st meeting!!!

What needs to happen over the next few months is to make good progress and do some prototyping to move on this.

Here’s the high level summary of the effort:  The Protocol Transitioning Tiger Team was formed in Tucson at the Interop meeting in Nov 2023. The aim is to address the question of compatibility of the DAL protocols (and by implication protocols such as UWS) with modern web development tools. A number of people volunteered to form a tiger team to work on this. The recommendations being examined would mostly be in DAL and GWS (e.g., TAP, SIA2, SODA <https://wiki.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/view/IVOA/SODA>, UWS) so will need to be a cross WG effort. A question to answer is : How do we adapt the protocol interactions to be compatible with tools such as OpenAPI <https://wiki.ivoa.net/twiki/bin/edit/IVOA/OpenAPI?topicparent=IVOA.DALGWSTigerTeam;nowysiwyg=0>.
SO please respond to the Doodle poll that James has sent around.  I didn’t receive his email myself so I am also sending this to watch that it gets to the recipients and a few folks I signed on since the mail list was organized are included - I’ll work to get everyones names added this week.
