To avoid duplicating everything, I suggest we continue this discussion on only one of the two lists to which Sébastien initially advertised it.  On the grounds that 'interop' is for more 'meta' discussions, I've responded on the semantics list only.

Electrons are cheap, however, and we can continue on both if anyone feels strongly about it.
