Dear IVOA members,

I would like to forward an email from ICSU regarding an interest to join 
the World Data System (WDS). 

There seems to be no harm to join the WDS (except that a data center 
would need to find its successor when it decides to cease a data service)
, and an advantage to join the WDS would be to raise the visibility of a 
data center (and possibly to get more fund from a funding agency since 
the data center contributes the world wide activity by ICSU).

I hope you to pass this information to relevant data centers that you 
know.

Please find attached for your consideration a letter from Bernard
Minster and Nicole Capitaine, co-chairs of the World Data System
Transition Team.



The International Council for Science is establishing a new ICSU World
Data System (WDS). As part of the transition from the existing
networks—ICSU World Data Centres and the Federation of Astronomical and
Geophysical data-analysis Services—we are asking organizations that are
interested in participating in the WDS to complete an online Expression
of Interest form by 24 October 2009.

We hope that you will largely circulate this call among your 
constituencies.
