Dear Tony,
Progressivly the general Modelisation effort in the IVOA has been organized
in sub-tasks:
Among these: a peculiar topic on Spectra and SEDs: this is now close to
recommendation
On more general aspects:
An effort on a "Quantity" datamodel.
An effort on a "Space Time Metadata" datamodel
An effort on an "Observation" datamodel.
Basically it was the situation after Cambridge/UK and Strasbourg InteropMeeting
Between Strasbourg and Cambridge/MA meeting, "Observation" itself has been
subdivided in "Characterization", "Provenance" and a couple of other Packages.
Basically "Characterization" should tell us "where is the observation in the
parameter space (physical space/time/wavelength/polarimetry ...)"
In Cambridge/MA "Characterization" has been identified as the prioritary block
for an Observation DataModel, critical for SIA future and DAL, important to be taken
into account by "Registry" group (for Resource Metadata) and people working in the
fields of Astronomical Data Queries Language. Various versions of an xml schema
have been provided on the dm list in September. At The Pune meeting Jonathan gave
the roadmap to have a working draft on that well before the May interoperabilty
meeting.
Best regards
François
