Pierre,
 That's exactly right, and on the TWiki page (and my page)
you'll see a link to 
 http://hea-www.harvard.edu/~jcm/vo/docs/qexamples/qxml.html
where you can find a prototype of the XML schema files.
(Brian tells me he found a few typos, so you should probably wait
an hour or so till I update them).
 In the document itself I just give an English description of the
serialization because I find .xsd files very hard to read, but
the .xsd files are certainly what formalizes the serialization.
