OK - that was slack as I had already pointed that out earlier in this  
thread  - what about not concentrating on format then and having  
secondary words time.MJD, time.iso8601, pos.hms, pos.dms, pos.STC  
time.STC

My main aim in this is to prevent another metadata box being created  
that needs to be filled, but rather extending what we already have to  
solve this problem.
