The FITS MIME media types are now codified in RFC 4047.

The prescriptions for the use of application/fits and image/fits in
the IANA registrations are not strong enough to be entirely disjoint.
In many cases the provider of the data will have a choice of using
either according to the intended use of the FITS file.
