I guess I don't really see the point. If it's constant, use a PARAM within
the group. If it's a column, use a FIELDref within the group. I don't think
this presents a particular parsing problem.

(Also, for what it's worth,
 most of the PARAMs are not in the category of things that might sometimes be FIELDs.)
