spectral data models and SIA support for spectra

Hi all.  I asked Ivo Busko here at STScI to write up some thoughts on spectral data models.  He has implemented a general spectral analysis package called specview (see http://specview.stsci.edu) that deals with a large variety of spectral data formats, and I thought his experiences would be helpful.  I'm sure Ivo would be willing to engage in some dialog to help us out in this area.
