Dear IVOA colleagues,
Please take note of a very interesting Astro Hack Week (the eight of the series), which will take place at MPIA in Heidelberg in October this year. We are particularly encouraging participation from early career and otherwise underrepresented communities in these type of data-intensive unconferences so please consider applying and please help me sharing the voice to any potentially interested communities that you are aware of.
Many thanks in advance,
Bruno

> Dear colleagues,
>
> Applications are open for the eighth Astro Hack Week! The 2022 edition will be held at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany, from October 17 to October 21, 2022.
>
> Scientists at all career levels, from senior undergraduates to faculty members, as well as anyone whose work relates to astronomy in research, engineering or technical positions, inside and outside of academia, are invited to apply. Researchers working in adjacent fields to astronomy (e.g. physics), in methodological fields (e.g. computer science) and in data-science related topics are welcome to participate in the event.
>
> Due to ongoing travel restrictions and health concerns worldwide, Astro Hack Week 2022 is set to be organized as a hybrid event with both in-person and on-line participation options. We expect to cap attendance at ~50 people for the in-person event and a similar number for the virtual participation in order to ensure an engaging experience for all participants.
>
> Astro Hack Week is a mixture of data analysis school and unconference-enabled collaborative research, with ~⅓ of the workshop dedicated to tutorials, and the rest to open project work. There are no formal prerequisites. During tutorials, participants will learn practical skills in data science-related topics, including statistical and machine learning methods, crucial to modern astronomical data analysis. We welcome participants to bring their own research and development projects; Astro Hack Week is a great place to apply new skills and methods, and engage in stimulating collaborative work to move projects forward. It is also an opportunity to work on new projects, and we encourage participants to apply their technical knowledge to outstanding problems in the astronomical community.
>
> One of the goals of Astro Hack Week is to improve the inclusion and participation of researchers from underrepresented backgrounds in data-intensive astronomy. We are committed to building a positive and supportive environment where all participants can learn and collaborate.
