Dear Apps members,

At the fall IVOA Interop in Görlitz, the Application Working Group
agreed to draft a new version of the HiPS document to take into account
the generalisation to cubic data (HiPS3D).
HiPS authors and contributors are pleased to publish a first working
draft of a version 2.0 of the HiPS IVOA standard. This second edition of
the document mainly extends the HEALPix spherical discretization
principle to a potential second physical dimension: time or frequency.

  * IVOA web site document :https://www.ivoa.net/documents (soon available)

This document is the outcome of a collaboration among several authors
and contributors, who now wish to share the draft with all members of
the “Applications” Working Group as an opportunity to preview and review
it ahead of the next Interop meeting in Strasbourg. This early feedback
phase is intended to help refine the document and prepare for more
in-depth, in-person discussions at the meeting. Please feel free to
share comments, suggestions, or corrections via the IVOA Apps mailing
list or directly in the above GitHub repository. If the feedback is
positive and consistent, we may consider advancing this working draft
into a recommendation proposal for the November 2026 Interop meeting.

To help to the reading, additional HiPS cubic extension presentation,
libraries and tools can also be found below:
