Apps/DAL TAP Implementation session in Naples

Hi all,

One of the sessions scheduled at the Napoli Interop is marked
TAP Implementation (emergent timetabling issues mean that this 
has recently been rescheduled for Wednesday PM).  The DAL and Apps 
chairs and vice-chairs have had some discussion about the format 
of this session.

The aim of the session will be to gather implementation experience
from both client implementators and service implementors/providers,
with a view to answering questions about how well the standard is
serving the needs of software authors and even scientific users,
and which parts of it might need further attention in the future, 
to share experience about approaches to implementation problems,
to get an idea about who is offering or planning to offer 
what in terms of clients and services, and possibly other
TAP implementation-related issues not covered elsehwere in the 
Interop programme.
TAP is a large standard with a lot of effort in the design, and
a year after it reached recommendation status is a good time to
survey where we are with it.

We feel it's important to leave time for discussion of the various
issues arising, so the format of this session will not be like
that of a normal Apps session.  Presentations are invited 
from people with implementation experience; however these will
be short (<= 10 minutes) and actual software demonstrations are
discouraged.  Briefly describing software is OK, but the focus 
should be on lessons learnt and sharing experience which will
be useful for the rest of the TAP community.

There are currently four presentations scheduled for this session (see
http://www.ivoa.net/cgi-bin/twiki/bin/view/IVOA/InterOpMay2011Applications;
the authors are CC'd on this message) which should leave about half 
the time for discussion.  If anybody else would like to present
something here let me know.  Of course you don't need to sign up
in advance to take part in the discussion.

This does mean that the speakers in this session may not get the
chance to do a normal Apps-WG-style software talk/demo.  If anybody
feels hard done by and would like a slot in one of the other Apps 
sessions to present their TAP-related application per se,
let us know and subject to time constraints it may be possible.
