Dear all,

this is an announcement of a quite extensive update of the JSKy library and the
associated JSkyCat application developed a number of years ago at ESO. The JSky
library is used in a number of observations preparation tools including the one
developed for ALMA. The latter is also the root of this update initiative, which
includes access to VO registries, SIA, SSA and SLAP servers. It also features
SAMP and Plastic support and a set of widgets to access the services and display
images and overlays. The VO access is based on Mark Taylor's STIL. The VO access
really is an extension in the sense that the 'old' ESO Skycat/Astrores based
access is still also maintained and available in parallel. The current features
of the library is pretty much tuned to the usage inside bigger observation
preparation applications, but there is a fair chance that it will be further
updated to support real-time eaves-dropping from instruments in the future.

and have fun using it...

Cheers,
Andreas
